Barmouth Communities First is part of a network of Partnerships accross Wales, combating poverty and social exclusion in the most deprived areas. It has been devised and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government
What we do in Barmouth:
We work with the community to help them realise their ambitions for their home area. They set the agenda, organise the priorities, deliver the results. We access support, guidance, funding and training to give people the skills they need to realise their potential and in the process gain valuable knowledge. Have a look around the site, especially at the Groups sites to see some of what the people of Barmouth have achieved.
As we move into the next phase the emphasis changes to creating sustainable enterprises and services under local management.
How we do it :
We have a Communities First Partnership comprising 1/3 Voluntary sector people, 1/3 from Statutory authorities and 1/3 Local community and business people.
They meet on the first Tuesday of the month. Reports are given, discussions are held, speakers give presentations. Tasks are identified to be carried out during the coming month. It sounds serious but there is a lot of laughter, a lot of work and a lot of progress. We value the time that people give and try to ensure that the best use is made of that precious asset
Empowerment:
By growing your skills you will be able to influence how your community develops.
Helping you helps all. The Partnership is made up of people with many different skills and interests so that all aspects of the community receive attention--well --we try--but YOU may be able to add to that--- call in to the office in Station Road or sit in on a few meetings to get the taste of thing
What you can do
Join the on line community on this site and add your comments, take part in discussions, come along to the Partnership meetings and hear what is being done. If you have an interest in the development of the town and have been involved in one of the local groups ( or are part of a new one) you could talk to us about joining as a member, which would entitle you to speak at the meetings and take part in the voting. We keep a balance of members between three sectors Statutory ( Fire /Police/ Health/ Council etc) Voluntary and Business ( local companies / national groups & Charities) and Community ( Local groups e.g Football, Childcare partnership, Gwarchod etc.)
Some of the Groups in Barmouth that have been helped by this
approach include :
Batala Bermo Samba Band , Barmouth Environmental Conservation Group,
Barmouth Childcare Partnership, Sailors Institute, Barmouth Residents Association, Dragon Theatre , Barmouth Rowing Club and many many more
